Free school closure predictions for every Canadian province. Enter your postal code for an instant snow day probability in metric units.
Our Canadian Snow Day Calculator is built specifically for the unique weather patterns and school closure policies of each Canadian province. From the brutal Prairie winters of Alberta and Manitoba to the wet, icy storms of British Columbia and Ontario, each province has its own relationship with winter weather.
Unlike our US calculator, the Canadian edition operates entirely in metric unitsโdisplaying snowfall in centimetres, temperature in Celsius, and wind speed in kilometres per hour. Our regional thresholds reflect the higher winter weather tolerance of Canadian school boards, which are generally accustomed to operating in more severe conditions than their American counterparts.
Ontario and Quebec, Canada's most populous provinces, follow detailed closure protocols established by individual school boards. Our model has been trained on data from the major boards in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City. Prairie provinces like Saskatchewan and Manitoba apply some of the highest snowfall thresholds, while coastal British Columbia focuses heavily on freezing rain and ice accumulation rather than snow depth.
A unique feature of our Canadian predictor is the wind chill weighting system. Many Prairie school boards have explicit cold temperature policies: classes are cancelled or recesses moved indoors when wind chills drop below -28ยฐC or -35ยฐC, depending on the board. Our algorithm automatically applies these regional cold-temperature rules alongside precipitation forecasts.
